On June 26, 2026, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola made an official visit to Lisbon to strengthen ties between the European Union and Portugal.

A central highlight of the trip was marking the 40th anniversary of Portugal’s accession to the European Economic Community with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

Throughout her visit, President Metsola engaged in high-level discussions with key figures, including the President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, and the regional leaders of Madeira and the Azores.
